ABOUT THE TEAM - CATS
We are a husband and wife team which was joined in 2004 by the unexpected arrival of our firstborn son and again in 2006 by his brother. We live and work in Gauteng, South Africa and make all travel plans and dreams in Centurion, our home base. We currently use a Mitsubishi Pajero 3.2Did LWB as mode of transport on long trips and a Land Rover Defender 90 for playing around. We usually tow a Jurgens Safari Xplorer Off-Road caravan wherever we go. CATs has become our name through some interesting mixture of events. In 2002 Toni and I decided to enter the Mitsubishi 4x4 Eco-Challenge. It was the second year that this event ran and we felt that one is never to old to learn. We are pasionate about nature and try to be eco-friendly wherever we may go. I personally believe that acting responsibly is one of our commitments to the Creator, Jesus Christ. This competition promised some learning combined with some fun in the art of 4x4'ing and enjoying Nature. The evening before our participation in the regional events, we were fortunate enough to witness CATS-The Musical performed live in the State Theatre in Pretoria. We loved it so much that we duly bought a CATS T-shirt each and decided to wear this in the next day's 4x4 challenge as team-CATS. We went through to the Semi Finals in the Kalahari and the name stuck. I later made a spare wheel cover with the logo on and some people also pointed out that it was an abreviation for Christo And Toni 'S. I also registered on several overland related forums under the name CATs.
We are active members of the 4x4 Off-Road Adventure Club(http://www.offroadclub.co.za) and love the family atmosphere that this club offers. The club setup gives one the opportunity to further educate oneself regarding off-roading. It further gives one the opportunity to vissit distant places with some friends to help should something go wrong. Obviously it also makes sure that one use your vehicle as often as possible as a lot of events are organized and you just need to sign up and pay the very reasonable fees applicable. We have made some great new friends through the club and can honnestly advise anyone to join a club for the camaraderie and the experience gained from other 4x4ers.
This web site was created from a need to share some of our photos and trips reports with faraway family and friends and to help other travelers we meet on our path.
Most pictures has been taken with our trusty Canon D600 Digital SLR or Pentax ist-D but some older ones came from a Pentax MZ 50 with the photos then scanned.
Please feel free to contact us with comments or questions. Copies of photos are free but please give us the credit of authorship.
